Universities in Argentina and Mexico launch new AI education programs

The National Technological University (UTN) in Tucumán, Argentina, held an interdisciplinary forum titled "The World We Program: Artificial Intelligence, Digital Citizenship and Ethics in the Age of Automation". About 70 students, faculty and professionals discussed the societal impact of AI, with provincial Secretary of Citizen Participation José Farhat stressing that AI decisions affect everyday life and human rights, noting, "When a machine decides about a person and no one can explain why, we are not facing a technical problem. We are facing a rights problem."

In Coahuila, Mexico, the Technological University of Coahuila (UTC) introduced a new degree in Artificial Intelligence to address the automation of the regional automotive industry, which accounts for roughly 45% of local economic activity. Rector Sergio Guadarrama said the program "comes precisely as a response to the automation taking place within production in companies" and likened AI tools in classrooms to calculators, arguing they are supportive aids rather than replacements for learning.
