Universities in Argentina and Spain launch AI research initiatives

Ten national universities in Argentina, including the Universidad Nacional de Santiago del Estero (UNSE), have signed a commitment to develop a multidisciplinary Doctorate in Applied Artificial Intelligence. The initiative, discussed during a meeting at the Balseiro Institute, aims to strengthen research and training in a field impacting education, science, and labor. Participating institutions include the National Universities of Córdoba, La Pampa, Río Cuarto, Rosario, San Luis, Centro de la Provincia de Buenos Aires, Comahue, Litoral, and del Sur.

In Spain, ten universities have formed the ConfIA network, an interuniversity initiative of centers of excellence in reliable and responsible artificial intelligence. The network includes the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and several other major research centers. ConfIA seeks to coordinate strategic initiatives and promote the development of AI systems that are secure, transparent, and aligned with European values.
