Universities in Gwangju and Jeonnam report rising admission competition rates

Universities in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions of South Korea have announced their competition rates for the 2027 academic year rolling admissions. Most national universities saw a slight increase in competition compared to the previous year.

Chonnam National University recorded an average competition rate of 6.64 to 1, with high interest in medical, dental, and pharmacy programs. Chosun University saw an average rate of 5.05 to 1, notably with a 16.89 to 1 competition rate for its regional physician track in pre-medicine.

The Korea Institute of Energy Technology (KENTECH) achieved its highest competition rate since its opening, reaching 31.13 to 1. This represents a 28% increase from the previous year, driven by interest in semiconductor, energy, and AI research fields. KENTECH offers a research-oriented environment where students can study six specialized energy engineering fields without a fixed major during their undergraduate years.
