Universities launch interdisciplinary health initiatives for children

Academic institutions in Chile and Argentina are implementing interdisciplinary programs to promote early childhood health and development through preventive screenings and diagnostic research.

In Chile, the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) has launched a research project led by its School of Kinesiology. The study aims to diagnose the psychomotor development of approximately 120 children between 6 months and 5 years old in vulnerable contexts within Valparaíso. By integrating kinesiology, early childhood education, and social work, the project seeks to characterize motor, cognitive, language, and socio-emotional areas to inform future public policy and early intervention strategies.

In Argentina, the Universidad del Salvador (UCSF) conducted a university extension project at the Bernardino Rivadavia School in Reconquista. Students from Occupational Therapy, Kinesiology, Physiatry, and Nutrition participated in workshops focused on postural education, motor development, and healthy eating. The initiative included individual nutritional assessments using BMI and postural evaluations to identify signs requiring medical attention, aiming to strengthen the connection between schools, families, and health professionals.
