Universities promote historical memory and cinema through diverse film projects

The National University of Tucumán (UNT) in Argentina held an event to premiere short films based on the podcast series ‘Audiografías de la memoria’. This project, involving the School of Cinema, Video and Television and the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, focuses on historical research regarding the 50th anniversary of the military coup and the 60th anniversary of the closure of sugar mills. The initiative included the inauguration of the UNT Mural Circuit and the presentation of the web series ‘Historia de un colapso’, incorporating testimonies from survivors and family members.

In another cultural initiative, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), through its Los Angeles branch, co-hosted the 18th edition of the Hola México Film Festival. The university aims to promote Mexican cinema in the United States and support the ‘Tomorrow’s Filmmakers Today’ program, which provides mentorship and tools for Latino filmmakers in Los Angeles. The festival also featured screenings such as the documentary ‘Llamarse Olimpia’, which addresses digital sexual violence and the activism behind the ‘Ley Olimpia’ reforms.
