Universitätsmedizin Rostock investigates senior physician over racist social media posts

Universitätsmedizin Rostock has announced it will take consequences following allegations that a senior physician posted racist and violent content on social media. The claims, brought to light by an Instagram account dedicated to combating right-wing hate speech, include screenshots of comments targeting refugees and migrants.

Reported comments include phrases such as ‘remigrate or cremate’ and references to people as ‘heating mass’ to solve energy problems. The physician also allegedly made derogatory remarks regarding German politician Friedrich Merz and used racial slurs. Some posts reportedly alluded to carrying firearms for use in ‘necessary cases.’

The university expressed ‘great dismay’ regarding the circulating comments, stating that any statements approving, suggesting, or threatening violence are unacceptable and contradict the institution's values of humanity, respect, and the protection of life. While the screenshots have been traced back to the physician, their authenticity has not yet been independently verified.
