University athletics departments launch fundraising initiatives

The University of Regina held its inaugural Day of Giving on September 22, a 24-hour donation campaign aimed at supporting its varsity athletics department. The initiative raised $273,829 through 778 gifts, surpassing the initial $150,000 goal. Athletics director Lisa Robertson noted that the funds are critical, as university allocations only cover travel, while food, equipment, and mental health support rely on fundraising.

Similarly, North Dakota State University has announced NDSU Giving Day 2026, scheduled for October 27. The online campaign seeks to support student-athletes through the Green and Gold Fund and various sport-specific programs. The university has introduced 30 challenge matches intended to unlock nearly $300,000 for the athletics department.
