University career choices show trends in labor stability and traditional preferences

Recent studies highlight the complexities of choosing university degrees based on labor market trends in different regions. In the Canary Islands, data from the Fundación CYD reveals that Computer Science graduates experience exceptionally high contractual stability four years after finishing their studies. Conversely, graduates in Health and Social Services face higher levels of temporary employment, though they tend to earn higher salaries and show a strong correlation between their university training and their professional roles.

In Argentina, a survey by Junior Achievement Argentina among over 6,500 high school seniors shows that traditional careers like Law, Medicine, and Business Administration remain the most popular choices. Despite the rise of new technologies, fields related to artificial intelligence, data science, and cybersecurity account for only 3.6% of student selections. The report suggests that students often choose paths they are familiar with, struggling to envision or understand the daily realities of emerging technical professions.
