University Clinical Center of Republika Srpska opens new Spinal Department

The University Clinical Center (UKC) of Republika Srpska has established a specialized Spinal Department within its Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic. This reorganization introduces 24-hour availability of spinal surgeons to manage urgent cases and severe spinal cord injuries.

The department will focus on treating spinal traumas, degenerative diseases, spinal stenosis, and certain spinal tumors. Medical staff are utilizing modern, minimally invasive procedures, including vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty, to facilitate faster patient recovery and shorter hospital stays. The facility aims to expand its capabilities through continuous staff education and collaboration with regional and European medical experts.

Nikola Šobot, acting general director of UKC Republika Srpska, noted that the clinic is evolving from robotic surgery toward advanced spinal surgery techniques.
