University Clinical Hospital Mostar to launch 2.6M euro cancer treatment device
University Clinical Hospital Mostar is set to begin operating a new stereotactic linear accelerator on October 2. The device, valued at nearly 2.6 million euros, is designed to enhance radiotherapy capabilities by allowing for more precise radiation targeting of tumor tissue while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.
The acquisition is a key component of the LIFEGATE project (Linking International Facilities for Early Detection and Global Access to Treatment and Evaluation), a strategic initiative worth approximately 9.54 million euros. The project involves seven partner institutions across Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Montenegro, focusing on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of malignant and cardiovascular diseases.
The European Union is funding 85 percent of the LIFEGATE project through the Interreg VI-A IPA program for Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro. The project, which began in July 2025, is scheduled for completion by the end of June 2028.
