University College Hospital health workers suspend strike
The Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) has suspended its indefinite strike at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan for two weeks. The suspension, effective from September 22, 2026, follows an intervention by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
The industrial action was initiated over the hospital management's failure to reinstate Adeyinka Ishola as the Director of Pharmaceutical Services. The union contends that Ishola's redeployment to a different unit constitutes a demotion and punitive action that contradicts a previous panel of inquiry.
Union leadership stated that the two-week period is intended to allow the federal ministry to resolve the dispute decisively. If the matter is not resolved by the end of the suspension, the union has warned it will issue a strike ultimatum and may mobilize branches across federal and state health institutions for a nationwide solidarity strike.
