Medical studies link hydration to stress and retinal health to heart rhythm

Recent medical studies have highlighted new links between lifestyle and physiological responses. Researchers at Liverpool John Moores University found that chronic dehydration may exacerbate stress symptoms. In a study involving 32 young adults, those consuming less than 1.5 liters of fluid daily showed significantly higher increases in salivary cortisol levels during psychological stress tests compared to those consuming more than 2.5 liters.

Separately, researchers at University College London (UCL) have identified potential ocular indicators for atrial fibrillation. By analyzing retinal images from over 90,000 individuals across the AlzEye database and the UK Biobank, scientists observed that patients with atrial fibrillation exhibited a thinner macular ganglion cell and inner plexiform layer (mGCIPL). This finding suggests that high-resolution retinal imaging could serve as a tool for detecting heart rhythm disorders.
