University engineering teams secure second-place finishes in international competitions

Two university engineering teams achieved significant success in specialized technical competitions.

In Mexico, the IGNIS UAP team from Universidad Anáhuac Puebla secured second place in the Multistage Hydropropulsed Rocket category at the Hidrochallenge IPN 2026. Organized by the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), the competition required students to design and launch a water and compressed air-powered rocket capable of carrying a payload for atmospheric measurement and earth observation. The team, composed of Renata Chavarri Mendoza, Ángel Didier Torres Torres, and Enrique Yáñez Sánchez, achieved a perfect score of 100 points during the initial evaluation phase.

In Europe, the UAH Motorsport team from the Universidad de Alcalá earned second place in the engineering design category during their international debut at a Formula Student competition in Portugal. The multidisciplinary team, consisting of over 60 engineering and economics students, is developing an electric single-seater vehicle. The award recognizes the technical and conceptual quality of the vehicle's design following several years of development.
