University for Development Studies eliminated from WAUG football

Ghana’s University for Development Studies (UDS) has been eliminated from the football competition at the 15th West African University Games (WAUG) in Nigeria. After an early tournament success where they defeated Nigeria’s Afe Babalola University 4-2, the defending champions reached the semi-finals.

In their semi-final match against hosts Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, the game remained goalless through 90 minutes of regulation time. UDS was ultimately knocked out following a 4-3 penalty shootout loss to OAU. The defeat ends UDS’s bid to retain their football title from the previous edition of the games.
