University for Development Studies wins African university football title

The University for Development Studies (UDS) has won the African university football title for the second consecutive year. In the final held in Cairo, the Tamale-based institution defeated Tanzania’s Julius Nyerere University 2–1. This victory makes UDS the first university in the history of African university football to successfully defend a continental title.

To reach the final, UDS secured a 4–0 victory over Egypt’s Delta University in the semi-finals. The win follows a period of significant success for the university, which also became the first African team to win the FISU World University Football Championship in September 2025.
