University for Foreigners of Siena launches new archaeology and art history degrees

The University for Foreigners of Siena (Unistrasi) is expanding its academic offerings for the 2026-2027 academic year by introducing two new degree programs focused on archaeology and art history. The new curricula include a bachelor’s degree in ‘Cultural Heritage: World Archaeology and Art History’ and a master’s degree in ‘Archaeology and Art Histories.’

These programs aim to provide an interdisciplinary approach, combining traditional studies with international law regarding cultural property, languages, and practical field training. Rector Tomaso Montanari noted that the goal is to study the past to better understand and shape the future.

The university’s research activities are closely linked to these educational paths, with significant archaeological work being conducted at Isola del Giglio. Under the ‘RES_MA_LAND’ project, coordinated by Professor Jacopo Tabolli, researchers are investigating the San Giorgio area to rediscover and valorize local heritage sites. Other research sites mentioned include the Bagno Grande excavation in San Casciano dei Bagni.
