University forums address linguistic unity and academic integrity in Spain
Historical and contemporary academic gatherings in Spain have addressed significant issues regarding language and university governance. In 1995, the fifth international meeting of Catalan language departments was held in Valencia. During this event, fifty university professors signed a manifesto supporting the linguistic unity of the Catalan language across various regions, including the Valencian Country, Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, Andorra, Northern Catalonia, the Franja de Ponent, and Alghero.
More recently, the Forum of Ombudspersons of Catalan Universities (SIUCAT) met at the University of Barcelona. The forum focused on shared challenges in university administration and research integrity. Key topics of discussion included the use of artificial intelligence in student evaluations, the reintegration of students following disciplinary sanctions, and the mediation functions of various university bodies. The meeting also addressed the impact of temporal limitations on the evaluation of teaching and research merits for faculty members.
