Rector Augusto Parmetler Halts UNaF Council Meeting Defying Federal Court Order
On 29 July, Augusto Parmetler, rector of the Universidad Nacional de Formosa (UNaF), unilaterally suspended an extraordinary session of the university’s Superior Council. The meeting had been ordered by the Federal Court of Formosa, which gave the rector no more than 48 hours to convene the body to discuss alleged administrative, financial and patrimonial irregularities.
Parmetler, lacking a governing majority and facing political isolation, chose to block the session rather than face a vote that could threaten his policies. Sources said the move was coordinated with legal adviser Mario Baran and was intended to avoid scrutiny of the university’s management. The decision directly defies a federal judicial mandate and raises concerns about institutional governance and rule‑of‑law compliance within the Argentine higher‑education system.
