University Hospital in Örebro faces suspected 40 million SEK salary fraud

An investigation by Nerikes Allehanda has uncovered suspected systematic salary fraud at the University Hospital in Örebro (USÖ). The suspected fraud involves the wrongful payment of between 30 million and 40 million SEK in salaries.

Reports indicate that the fraudulent activity was not an isolated incident but a planned, continuous system that occurred over a long period. Evidence gathered includes thousands of documents, payroll records, and schedules, as well as classified material.

Witness testimonies suggest that when schedulers discovered the discrepancies, hospital management—up to the level of the healthcare director—was alerted, but responsible managers allegedly failed to report the matter to the police. Instead, there are allegations that leadership attempted to suppress the alarms regarding the multi-million kronor scandal.
