University Hospital of Cuenca acquires IVUS technology for complex angioplasties
The University Hospital of Cuenca (HUCU) has acquired Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) technology to improve the treatment of complex coronary angioplasties. This advanced imaging tool allows medical professionals to obtain detailed views of the interior of coronary arteries during catheterization, providing data on plaque composition, vessel diameter, and lesion length.
By implementing this technology within its Cardiac Hemodynamics Unit, the hospital can now perform high-complexity coronary interventions locally. This advancement is expected to prevent approximately 50 patient transfers from Cuenca to the University General Hospital of Albacete, which previously served as the regional reference center for IVUS-guided procedures. The addition of IVUS complements existing functional studies using pressure guides to enhance diagnostic precision and patient care continuity.
