University leadership transitions underway in Argentina and Venezuela
The Universidad Nacional de Tucumán (UNT) in Argentina is facing an institutional crisis following a Federal Court ruling that disqualified engineer Sergio Pagani from running for a third consecutive term as rector. The university's Superior Council is currently debating legal alternatives to fill the vacancy, including the possibility of applying the National Electoral Code to organize new elections via a University Assembly before the end of the month.
In Venezuela, the Universidad de Los Andes (ULA) is undergoing a period of institutional renewal. Candidates for rectoral and professorial positions, including Virgilio Castillo, Ángel Andara, and Víctor Molina, have been engaging in dialogues with students, faculty, and alumni. These discussions focus on academic transformation, research support, laboratory improvements, and strategies to increase student enrollment and institutional sustainability.
