University Libraries Extend Late-Night Opening Hours for Exams

The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) Library will operate from 8:00 AM until 3:00 AM between 24 April and 7 May 2026 to accommodate final‑examination study needs. The extension includes a new check‑in and access‑control system for group study rooms, requiring students to register IDs and adhere to minimum occupancy rules.

Similarly, the Preston Campus Library will run from 7:30 AM to 3:30 AM from 6 May to 11 July as a pilot programme after student‑leader Aman Sahoo advocated for longer hours during exam and resit periods. The extended hours give students access to study spaces, computer desks and a lounge after the usual 10 PM closing, with limited upstairs access and self‑service book borrowing.

Both institutions aim to improve study‑space availability, monitor usage statistics, and evaluate whether the extra operating costs are justified for future semesters.
