University Medical Center Göttingen study finds Post-COVID symptoms improve but persist
Research from the PCS-Journey project at the University Medical Center Göttingen indicates that while many individuals experiencing Post-COVID syndrome see an improvement in their quality of life over time, this does not equate to a full recovery.
A systematic review and meta-analysis of 94 international longitudinal studies involving over 20,000 adults found that symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, depressive symptoms, and sleep disturbances significantly decreased, particularly within the first six months. The most notable improvements typically occurred between the 14th and 26th weeks.
Despite these improvements, researchers noted that certain symptoms, most notably fatigue, tend to persist long-term for a significant portion of patients. The study emphasizes that individual disease progression varies considerably among those affected.
