University Medical Center Mainz suspends admissions after power failure

A technical defect in the power supply system at the University Medical Center Mainz triggered an emergency response on Saturday evening. The defect caused a smoldering fire in a component, which automatically switched the hospital's power supply to emergency power.

Approximately 100 emergency personnel and a crisis management team were deployed to manage the situation. While medical disaster protection units were placed on standby to facilitate potential mass patient transfers, only three patients were preemptively moved to other hospitals for medical reasons.

Patient care was not endangered at any time; however, the hospital has temporarily suspended the admission of new patients while technicians work to restore the regular power supply. The public was notified of the situation via warning applications and the internet.
