University Medical Center surgeons perform complex life-saving procedures

Medical teams at the University Medical Center have successfully performed complex surgeries involving advanced techniques to treat critical conditions.

In a high-stakes cardiovascular procedure, a surgical team led by Professor Le Ngoc Thanh treated a 50-year-old patient suffering from severe aortic valve stenosis and extensive calcification extending into the left ventricular outflow tract. Due to the patient's unstable heart rhythm, doctors implemented a two-stage strategy: first implanting a permanent pacemaker to stabilize the heart rate, followed by open-heart surgery to replace the valve and remove the calcified tissue.

Additionally, surgeons at the Linh Dam facility of the University Medical Center utilized single-port endoscopic surgery to treat spinal issues, including spondylolisthesis and herniated discs. This minimally invasive technique aims to eliminate spinal lesions while allowing for faster recovery compared to traditional open surgery, which requires larger incisions and more extensive tissue manipulation.
