University of Adelaide advances Australian defence and security research

The University of Adelaide manages several key initiatives aimed at strengthening Australia’s sovereign defence and security capabilities through research and industry partnerships.

The Centre for Advanced Defence Research in Robotics and Autonomous Systems (CADR-RAS), a collaboration with the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG), focused on advancing robotics and autonomous systems. Its objectives included addressing defence challenges, improving machine perception and decision-making, and developing STEM training for defence personnel. While the Centre has concluded its formal operation, its research and partnerships continue to influence the sector.

Additionally, the Defence and Security Institute (DSI) works to align university research with national security needs. The DSI facilitates strategic partnerships, manages educational programs for the future workforce, and assists in transitioning research into practical products and practice to support national prosperity and security.
