University of Alicante protest trial moves to sentencing

A trial regarding an incident at the University of Alicante has moved to the sentencing phase. The case involves four young people facing potential prison sentences following a protest against the presence of far-right elements.

The incident occurred over five years ago involving Vox leader David García. During the proceedings, a witness for the prosecution, Manuel Mestre, provided testimony that contrasted with previous claims. While García had previously described death threats and a scene of physical aggression, Mestre stated he did not remember specific threats and noted that García only ‘got a little scared’ rather than feeling significant fear. Mestre also reported seeing only four or five participants rather than the fifteen previously cited.
