University of Bamberg to host reading by Ulrike Draesner

The University of Bamberg will host a reading and discussion with author Ulrike Draesner on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. Draesner will present her 2025 work, ‘penelopes sch()ff’, a feminist post-epic that reimagines Homer’s Odyssey.

The work explores an alternative narrative where Penelope does not remain by Odysseus’s side upon his return, but instead sets sail with a group of women. The reading is part of the interdisciplinary seminar project ‘Kirke, Kalypso & Co. – Weibliche Agency in der Odyssee und ihren Adaptionen’.

Draesner, a former Bamberg Poetics Professor and recipient of the 2021 Grand Prize of the German Literature Fund, is a prominent voice in contemporary German-language literature.
