Bitcoin value and AI energy demands analyzed by experts

Cryptocurrency expert Fabian Schär from the University of Basel provides an analysis of Bitcoin's value proposition. He explains that Bitcoin's worth is derived from scarcity, reliable protocols, and network effects rather than material substance, similar to how fiat currency relies on collective acceptance.

Schär notes that Bitcoin is often compared to digital gold because it serves as a store of value due to its capped supply of 21 million units. However, he highlights that high volatility and transaction limits currently hinder its use as a primary medium of daily exchange.

Additionally, the rise of Artificial Intelligence is creating a significant global demand for energy. AI data centers require massive amounts of power, potentially reaching several gigawatts, which is driving a race for electricity capacity and creating new opportunities for energy providers.
