University of Bordeaux expels students over enrollment error

The University of Bordeaux has expelled four students from the Bachelor of Technology (BUT) in Science and Materials Engineering program following an enrollment error. The students, who had been admitted via a process outside the official Parcoursup platform, were informed their registration was irregular after they had already begun classes and received student IDs.

The university cited reached capacity limits and the necessity of maintaining equality among all candidates as reasons for the decision. The affected families, who had abandoned other educational opportunities and incurred various costs, are contesting the move.

This incident highlights broader challenges within the French higher education system. As the Parcoursup procedure officially concluded on September 10, many students remain without academic placements. Some candidates face difficulties finding work-study programs, while others struggle to navigate reorientation after receiving only unsatisfactory course offers.
