University of Burgos to use municipal bone remains for medical training

The University of Burgos (UBU) and the Burgos City Council have signed an agreement to provide bone remains from the municipal cemetery for the practical training of students in the new Medical Degree program. The initial four-year agreement allows students to access real anatomical material for teaching and scientific research purposes.

The remains provided will consist of individuals whose remains have not been claimed by family members and are not subject to judicial or administrative proceedings. The agreement ensures that all use of the material will be conducted under strict ethical criteria, legal guarantees, and administrative controls. The University will be responsible for the custody, conservation, and final treatment of the remains.

University Rector José Miguel García and Mayor Cristina Ayala presented the agreement, noting that access to real anatomical material is a fundamental resource for understanding human anatomy and bone structure. The initiative supports the implementation of the medical faculty, with classes scheduled to begin this autumn.
