University of Calabria hosts AI and technology innovation forums
The University of Calabria (Unical) is advancing its role as a hub for technological innovation and artificial intelligence. As part of its Master in Electric Mobility and Circular Economy (MEEC), the university recently hosted international manager Giovanni Severini for an intensive course on Software Product Management. The sessions focused on the transition from managing orders to building products, as well as the practical application of AI in software processes.
The initiative concluded with a seminar titled ‘Big Tech and Ethical Dilemmas,’ which addressed the relationship between technology, capital concentration, sustainability, and digital sovereignty. The discussion moved beyond technical capabilities to examine the economic and social consequences of AI diffusion.
Broadly, Unical is positioning itself to translate scientific research into social and economic impact for the Calabria region. The university maintains a strong standing in computer science and has seen significant growth in international research, including a 79% increase in European project submissions and a 42% rise in European Research Council (ERC) funding applications.
