University of Calabria launches medical Master's in critical care and toxicology

The University of Calabria has launched a second-level Master's program focused on infections in critical patients, appropriate antibiotic therapy, and toxicological emergencies. Directed and coordinated by Professor Andrea Bruni, the program aims to provide highly specialized training for physicians managing complex patients in emergency and critical care settings.

A central component of the curriculum addresses the management of infections in critical patients, specifically targeting the challenges posed by the spread of multi-resistant microorganisms. The training will cover antimicrobial stewardship, microbiological diagnosis, and the management of severe infections through a multidisciplinary clinical approach.

Additionally, the program includes a module dedicated to toxicological emergencies. This focus follows recent regional experiences in Calabria, such as a botulism emergency that resulted in hospitalizations and fatalities, highlighting the need for professionals trained to recognize and manage potentially lethal intoxications.
