University of Calabria to host debate on rising rents and housing rights

Rifondazione Comunista is organizing a public debate at the University of Calabria (Unical) on Thursday, October 15, to discuss rising rent costs and the right to housing. The event will take place at 6:00 PM in Aula P2. 0 Occupata, Cubo 40C.

The discussion aims to examine how increasing rents, changes in the real estate market, and the proliferation of private student housing are impacting the urban areas of Cosenza and Rende. Participants will debate whether housing remains a fundamental right or is increasingly being treated as a vehicle for profit and investment.

While the impact on the student population is a primary focus, the debate will also address the broader social consequences for young workers and families struggling with rising living costs. Speakers include researcher Chiara Davoli, Unical professor Giulio Citroni, municipal councilor Rossella Gallo, and Simone Guglielmelli from La Base. The session will be moderated by Gianmaria Milicchio.
