University of California reviews standardized testing policies

The University of California (UC) system has initiated a review of its standardized testing policies for undergraduate admissions. Ahmet Palazoglu, chair of the UC Academic Senate, announced that the Academic Council expects a faculty-led report on the matter by February 2027, with a formal recommendation to follow by June 2027.

Since 2020, the UC system has moved toward making tests optional and eventually adopted a test-blind policy, where SAT and ACT scores are not considered in admissions decisions. While the UC website states that applicants for fall 2027 admission will not be required to submit these scores, the ongoing review has created uncertainty among high school students regarding potential future changes to testing requirements.
