University of Cambridge develops CosmoCube mission to study early universe
Researchers at the University of Cambridge, led by Professor Eloi de Lera Acedo, are developing the CosmoCube mission to investigate the ‘cosmic dark ages’. This period occurred after the Big Bang when the universe was filled with matter but before the first stars were formed.
To conduct these observations, the team plans to use a miniature satellite, roughly the size of a small carry-on suitcase, placed in lunar orbit. By using the Moon as a natural shield against radio interference from Earth, the satellite aims to detect signals dating back more than 13.5 billion years, potentially providing new insights into the early formation of cosmic structures.
