University of Castilla-La Mancha hosts first spin-off conference
The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) hosted the first conference on university spin-offs, titled ‘University, Innovation and Entrepreneurship’, at its Albacete campus. The event brought together academics, researchers, entrepreneurs, and knowledge transfer professionals to discuss the role of universities in economic development and the challenges of academic entrepreneurship.
Charo Serrano, managing director of the Research and Innovation Agency of Castilla-La Mancha, highlighted regional support for innovative entrepreneurship. This includes the ‘FIVE CLM’ initiative, which features five provincial hubs acting as startup accelerators providing mentorship and training. Additional financial support is offered through programs such as CLM Startup, Capital Semilla, and the IMPULSE Tech Transfer Fund.
To support these efforts, new specialized infrastructures are being developed at the Castilla-La Mancha Science and Technology Park. These include bio-incubation spaces for biotechnology and life sciences projects, as well as an Aerospace Incubator developed in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) to foster startups in the space sector.
