University of Castilla-La Mancha to establish Democratic Memory Chair

The Spanish Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory has signed an agreement with the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) to establish the Democratic Memory Chair. The agreement, published in the Official State Gazette (BOE), is set to remain in effect until November 30, 2027.

The Ministry will provide a maximum contribution of 100,000 euros, distributed in two annual installments of 50,000 euros for 2026 and 2027. The initiative aims to define research lines regarding the Second Republic, the Spanish Civil War, the Franco dictatorship, and the Transition period.

Key activities will include scientific congresses, seminars, the production of educational guides, and the creation of visual and documentary materials. The program also intends to facilitate student access to public documentation related to the dictatorship and foster collaboration between students of this and other Democratic Memory chairs in public universities.
