University of Cincinnati cleared by NCAA in Brendan Sorsby gambling probe
The NCAA has concluded its investigation into former University of Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby, clearing the university of any wrongdoing. The inquiry focused on Sorsby’s prohibited sports wagering activities during his collegiate career at Indiana, Cincinnati, and Texas Tech.
Sorsby was found to have committed a Level III violation, which the NCAA classifies as isolated and limited in nature. Consequently, all penalties are attached solely to the student-athlete rather than the institution, its coaches, or other staff and players.
According to court filings, Sorsby placed more than 9,000 wagers totaling at least $90,000 during his college career. This included at least 165 bets totaling over $38,000 while at Cincinnati. The NCAA had previously ruled Sorsby permanently ineligible in April following the discovery of these impermissible bets.
