University of Coimbra completes 15 energy efficiency projects

The University of Coimbra (UPCoimbra) has completed 15 energy efficiency projects funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). The total investment of approximately 6.2 million euros aims to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

The interventions included upgrades to three university residences, four buildings at the Coimbra Higher School of Agriculture, and several other campus facilities. Technical improvements involved thermal insulation, window replacements, LED lighting installation, and the modernization of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

Key environmental outcomes include an annual reduction of 326 tonnes of equivalent oil in primary energy consumption and a reduction of 455 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions. Additionally, the university installed 575 kWp of photovoltaic capacity for self-consumption and implemented water efficiency solutions expected to save 7,500 cubic meters of water annually.
