University of Coimbra develops digital psychological program for menopause

A research team from the University of Coimbra has developed a digital psychological intervention program designed to support women during perimenopause and menopause. Titled ‘Cuidar-ME – Autocuidado durante a Menopausa’, the tool is accessible via computers and mobile phones.

The program aims to address the physical and emotional challenges of this biological transition, providing evidence-based strategies to promote self-care, mental health, and overall quality of life. Researcher Ana Fonseca, from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, noted that the transition can impact both personal and professional relationships, often occurring in a social context where the topic remains a taboo.

An ongoing study is targeting women between the ages of 40 and 60 to test the effectiveness of the digital intervention.
