University of Coimbra marks student festivities and campus expansion
The University of Coimbra is marking significant developments in both its traditional student festivities and its institutional expansion. During the recent Festa das Latas, student activists used the event to highlight the urgent housing crisis and the shortage of student accommodation and 'repúblicas' across Portugal.
Simultaneously, the University of Coimbra's campus in Figueira da Foz is showing institutional growth. Following a partnership with the local municipality, which provided strategic assets like a converted bus terminal for laboratories, the campus has expanded its academic offerings. The curriculum now includes various undergraduate and master's degrees focused on the maritime economy and sustainability. While student enrollment is growing progressively toward a target of 150 students, the campus is being recognized for its potential to drive local innovation and support the creation of maritime-related startups.
