University of Coimbra seeks family recipe notebooks for exhibition

The Centre for Classical and Humanistic Studies (CECH) at the University of Coimbra is launching an initiative to collect family recipe notebooks for an upcoming exhibition titled ‘Cadernos de Receitas de Família’. The project seeks handwritten notebooks, loose sheets, or manuscripts—whether old or recent—that hold personal or affective family memories.

The initiative is open to all residents of Portugal, regardless of nationality, and manuscripts can be written in any language. The focus is not on the rarity or physical appearance of the objects, but on the stories they tell, the culinary habits they reveal, and the ways knowledge and culture are transmitted across generations.

Selected items will be featured in an exhibition at the General Library's Sala do Catálogo from October 21 to November 20, 2026. Submissions are being accepted until October 5.
