University of Colima opens second breastfeeding room
The University of Colima has inaugurated its second breastfeeding room, located on the Villa de Álvarez campus. The facility is designed to provide students and staff with a dignified, private, and secure space to breastfeed or to extract and preserve breast milk during their academic or work shifts.
University Rector Christian Jorge Torres Ortiz Zermeño stated that while the United Nations recognizes breastfeeding as a human right for mothers and children, fulfilling these rights requires institutional will and effort. He noted that this new space follows the opening of a first room on the Colima campus, which was established in response to requests from university mothers. The initiative aims to support women in balancing their family, academic, and professional lives.
Blanca Liliana Díaz Vázquez, president of the University of Colima Volunteer group, described the opening as a step toward making the university more human, inclusive, and committed to the well-being of its community.
