University of Colorado Denver to open Hyderabad campus
The University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) has received a letter of intent from India’s University Grants Commission (UGC) to establish a new campus in Hyderabad. This move makes CU Denver the first American public university authorized to set up a degree-granting location in India, and the first foreign university campus in the state of Telangana.
The Hyderabad campus is expected to offer programs in high-demand fields, including business, computing, engineering, and analytics. The university plans to welcome its first cohort of students in August 2027. To support the establishment and growth of the new location, CU Denver is partnering with global education company Emeritus as a strategic joint venture partner to manage non-academic functions.
Chancellor Kenneth T. Christensen stated that the expansion aims to build on the university’s longstanding connection with Indian students and provide access to high-quality, career-aligned learning. While the initial curriculum focuses on specific technical and business sectors, the university intends to propose additional programs to the UGC starting in the second year of operation.
