University of Costa Rica launches free virtual water management courses

The University of Costa Rica (UCR) will offer a new series of free, fully virtual courses on water and water resource management. Five separate courses are open to the general public without any academic prerequisites and provide a participation certificate issued by the Vicerrectoría de Acción Social.

Each course runs for 12 hours across four sessions held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. via Zoom and Global UCR platforms. The schedule begins with "Integrated Water Resource Management" on 31 August and 2, 7, 9 September, followed by a climate change module, risk management in aqueducts, soil water recharge, and finally aquifer protection in November. Enrollment opens on specific dates for each module and registration is handled through a Facebook page.

The initiative is part of the Center for Research in Geological Sciences' social‑action project, "Training in Water and Water Resources for Society," which has been running since 2022 and has already reached 8,063 participants from 26 countries.
