University of Córdoba study links teacher emotional skills to student development

Research conducted by the Education Research Laboratory (Liede) at the University of Córdoba indicates that teachers with higher socio-emotional competencies are more likely to transmit these skills to their students. The studies, published in the Journal of Education for Teaching and Teaching and Teacher Education, suggest that this relationship is strengthened when educators prioritize socio-emotional development within their formal teaching programs.

Researchers Vicente J. Llorent, Francisco Yuste Hidalgo, and Mariano Núñez Flores analyzed the profiles of teachers across 40 educational centers. The study involved surveys of over 1,450 educators, examining factors such as gender, age, and experience with diverse student populations. The findings highlight that developing these competencies is linked to improved academic performance and the prevention of issues such as bullying, cyberbullying, anxiety, and depression.
