The University of Dar es Salaam recently hosted two significant gatherings focused on the future of higher education in Africa.
In Zanzibar, the Association of African Universities (AAU) and the University of Dar es Salaam convened a capacity-building workshop regarding safety and security. The event brought together leaders from 15 universities across nations including Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania. Discussions centered on a holistic security framework that includes digital security, psychological wellbeing, emergency preparedness, and safeguarding to address emerging threats such as theft, assault, and sexual harassment.
Additionally, the University of Dar es Salaam hosted the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Alliance for African Partnership (AAP). This meeting focused on the necessity of strategic partnerships that translate academic research into practical solutions, such as new businesses, public policies, and technologies. University leaders emphasized the need to evolve academic structures to better prepare a youthful population for rapid technological advances and changing labor markets.
