University of Dhaka Vice-Chancellor role symbolically held by student for one day

To mark International Day of the Girl Child, Shital, a second-year higher secondary student from Dhaka, symbolically served as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka for one day. This event was part of the ‘Girls Take Over’ initiative organized by Plan International Bangladesh.

The initiative aims to highlight the leadership potential of girls and promote their rights by allowing young women to symbolically occupy leadership roles in various government, private, and development organizations. During her tenure, Shital participated in university discussions focusing on the harmful effects of child marriage, the protection of children's rights, and the importance of establishing female leadership to build an equitable society.

University of Dhaka Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A.B.M. Obaidul Islam supported the initiative, stating that doors to education must remain open for every girl's dreams and that investing in girls' education and rights is the foundation for an equitable future. The global theme for this year's observance is ‘End child marriage and invest in girls’ rights’.
