University of Electro-Communications launches CEREC entertainment research center
The University of Electro-Communications has established the Creative Entertainment Research & Education Center (CEREC) to advance research and education in the entertainment sector, specifically focusing on gaming. The center aims to integrate diverse technologies, including AI, virtual reality (VR), robotics, human-computer interaction, and materials engineering, to foster talent capable of international competition.
To mark the center's launch, an opening ceremony is scheduled for September 29, 2026. The event will feature panel discussions involving university President Masakazu Muramatsu and Ken Kutaragi, the creator of PlayStation and a special visiting professor at the university. Other speakers include alumni currently working at Sony Interactive Entertainment and Koei Tecmo Games, who will discuss the relationship between academia and the gaming industry.
